Jack Paul Patterson
Passed away on November 21, 2023
JACK PATTERSON – 1931-2023 – Savannah, GA
After living a very full life, overflowing with kindness and love, Jack made his transition to the next phase in his sleep, at home, surrounded by family.
He loved mathematics – he held a BA in Education-Math, a MA in Theology from LaSalle College (now University), and a MA from The University of Pittsburgh in Mathematics along with numerous other accomplishments - too many to list. He served as the Executive Director of the St. Fancis Vocational School (Philadelphia), an institution caring for dependent and neglected adolescents. He taught at the South Hills Catholic High School in Pittsburgh in the 1950's-60's. He joined the Christian Brothers early in life and became known as Brother Denis Stephen, F.S.C. until the late 60's – serving God officially for 25 years and then continuing to bring light to others every day of his life.
He returned to private life from 1969 to retirement in 1998, where he was a mathematics teacher at Briarcliff High School, in Briarcliff Manor, NY. He met his wife to be in 1973. Jack had a broad range of personal interests including renovating and preserving his beautiful old home, tennis, basketball, football, blackjack, Words with friends, live theatre, music, reading and travels including cruising with dear old friends Eleanore and Bill Livesey.
He was predeceased by his father, Paul Pogorzelski Patterson, his mother, Dorothy Skinger Patterson Parrotto, his step-father Frank Parrotto, his brother Robert Patterson and his wife Toni as well as many dear friends, uncles, aunts, cousins and a niece. Also predeceased by members of his loving family in Québec, mother-in-law Jeanne Loiselle Pilotte, father-in-law Athanase Pilotte, sister-in-law Micheline Pilotte, brother-in-law Daniel Pilotte and sister-in-law Lise Pilotte.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Andrée Pilotte Patterson, and his two most amazing children, of whom he was very proud: daughter, Mariève Patterson of Marlton, NJ, son Stephen Patterson (Keri Nagele) of Medway, MA & three grandsons he adored: Jack, Miles and Charlie. Also, his dear sister Fran Parrotto Trees (Eli Tepperberg), and his surviving aunt Mary Anne Skinger of Pittsburgh, Pa. He's survived by many members of his Québécois family, brother-in-law Jean-Pierre Pilotte (Lise De Rancourt), sister-in-law Louise Pilotte and sister-in-law Carole Corney Pilotte (Daniel), brother-in-law Raymond Bercier (Lise) and brother-in-law Frank van de Meer (Micheline), numerous nieces and nephews and so many true friends in Québec as well as in the USA.
The family owes many thanks to dear friend and neighbor James Hundsrucker who has been there the last couple of years, day and night, helping out whenever the text or phone call came. Special thanks also to awesome Sue Finkle for making sure our hearts, cupboards and refrigerators were always full. It would not have been possible to keep Jack home otherwise without these two dear people. Thank you to Shay, NP from WellBe/Aetna and all of the kind people from Amedisys, Annie, Chequita, Chris, Matt, Tanya... and so many more who touched our lives...

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 622 E. 37th Street, Savannah, GA.
Jack will always be remembered for his brilliance in mathematics and kindness that he exhibited to all people he met. When they visited us in Florida, Jack joined Bill with the group of tennis players. Jack was quickly recognized as one of the best players. And people always asked when he would be returning to play. Jack was an exceptional man with many talents. and I miss him already. He will join my husband Bill, and both will look down on us all and say keep it positive and help all the family members we left behind.

We are so grateful to have known Jack. He and Andree have been such wonderful friends to my parents, BIll and Eleanore Livesey and to me and my immediate family as well. We send our big hugs and love to Andree, Stephen and Marieve and hope you will come spend time with us in Florida this winter. I am chuckling remembering my father and Jack describing sitting by the tennis court with an OLD sticker taped to their shirts once they could no longer run around the courts! They both knew how to laugh a lot and enjoy life.

So very sorry for your loss Andree and family. I have so many fond memories of Jack going back to when I was very young and visiting at his Moms' house (my Aunt Dorothy), extending all the way through your joyous wedding, your visits to our house at the lake and our visits to your lovely home in Savannah. His kindness and wisdom always shined! My Mom also loved you both dearly.

I shall always remember Jack as one of the first people to welcome me to Briarcliff High School. The man radiated warmth, welcome, and generosity. I was new to the state, the area, and the school and a bit nervous, but he made me feel all would be fine. When I sometimes gave Marieve and Steve a ride home, Jack was always more appreciative than necessary because he was a man who did indeed practice grateful living long before it was that known or popular entity. Jack touched many lives on this Earth; he made a positive difference. ~~ Andree, Marieve, and Steve: I am so sorry for your loss. He leaves a part of himself here on Earth inside of each of you in the ways you are who you are because of him. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
